Today we received the good news that the IMISCOE Board of Directors has accepted our proposal to establish a methods oriented Standing Committee (SC) in the network. After having already organized methods session at the annual conferences in 2017, 2018 (together with Sebastian Rinken), and 2019 (together with Sebastian Rinken and Justyna Salamońska) we now have the means to establish the discussion of methodological innovations and challenges as a key element of IMISCOE activities (particularly the annual conference).
The proposal for the SC has been submitted jointly by Justyna Salamońska (Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw), Siresa López Berengueres (Sciences Po Paris), Sebastian Rinken (IESA-CSIC), Evren Yalaz (GRITIM UPF), Ricard Zapata-Barrero (GRITIM UPF), and myself. We will now form the Standing Committee’s coordination group.
The SC will not focus on a particular methods-school but concern itself with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods alike. A short description of the SC can already be found on IMISCOE’s website.
Update (2019/10/23): The current IMISCOE newsletter describes the network’s new structure of Standing Committees and Research Groups.
